Youth Side Event

Youth Delegates
February 8-9 there will be a pre-conference meeting for the youth delegates from each participating country.

The conference will assist youth delegates identify child and youth-focused strategies in line with the themes of the meeting. Youth delegates will also team up with youth advocates from Vanuatu to facilitate classroom discussions with school-children in Port Vila to discuss how the crisis affects the lives of children. Information from school visits will be used to support the development of child and youth-focused strategies.

Youth delegates will also work closely with the media to ensure that youth perspectives are captured in media coverage of the conference.

Competition: ‘Story of the Human Face’
We wish to thank the youths from 18 to 25 years of age who participated in a competition to tell the ‘Story of the Human Face'. This competition encourages young Pacific Islanders to document how the Global Economic Conference is impacting or might impact vulnerable groups of people in the Pacific region in the future. Vote for your favourite story here!

The winning story will be used in media campaigns and will be presented to the Pacific leaders at the Global Economic Conference in Vanuatu. Other prizes will be rewarded to the winning 4 stories.

The conference is also on Facebook with the group The Human Face. We encourage young people to join this group and contribute to the debate about the financial crisis and its impact on the Pacific people.
 

Quick Facts

The Conference brought together national policy-makers,civil society, the private sector and development partners and discussed how they could address the global crisis in the Pacific.

The Conference identified the impact of the crisis on the most vulnerable categories of people including children, youth, women, people with disabilities, as well as the urban and the rural poor.
